| Nepal celebrated International Music Day 2008 : June 22, 2008 Nepal celebrated International Music Day 2008 on June 21 amidst much fanfare and rejoicing. The three-day event organized on the initiative of Alliance Francaise in Kathmandu saw workshops, roundtables and concerts organized in different parts of Kathmandu valley with the slogan of 'feel the rhythm of your city'.
On June 18, three music workshops were organized. The Traditional Nepali Music Workshop was organized at Nepali Folk Instrumental Museum, Tripureshwor. Similarly, Introduction to Tharu Folk Instrument was organized in Nepal Sangeet Vidyalaya, Kathmandu. Likewise, a Jazz Lecture by Dr. Gene Aitken was organized on Kathmnadu Jazz Conservatory, Lalitpur.
Similarly, a Round Table on Nepali music was organized on June 19 at Alliance Francaise. Musician Salil Subedi, lyricist Praksh Sayami, sitar virtuso Bijaya Vaidya, Yubakar Rajkarnikar, and others expressed their views of Nepali music.
On June 21, four different concerts were organized in different parts of Kathmandu Valley. Thousands of youths participated in the Rock Concert organized in Durbarmarg. Rock bands Antim Grahan, Cobweb, Divya+Blue Acidz, Looza, Shadows, The Shrings, Shannon Scam, The Axe and Emergency + Guests performed on the occasion. Likwise, two separate classical concerts were organized in Gurukul, Old Baneshwor, and Yala Maya Kendra in Patan. Likewise, a concert was also organised in Nepal Sangeet Vidhyalaya where students from both eastern and western faculty performed.
Every year June 21 is remembered throughout the world as International Music Day. The event was initiated by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang in 1982 in order to make people share the same passion: Music.
